DEADPOOL (Wade Wilson)
”The day my father Odin banished me from Asgard, I was bitten by a vampire and had radioactive waste dumped into my eyes. To make matters worse, my mutant ability to control weather activated just as I was hit by a blast of gamma radiation… Nah, actually, I got this way by volunteering for the Weapon X program. They promised to cure my cancer. And they cured it all right, by giving me an outrageous healing factor. Then they labeled me psychotic and tossed me into a prison lab. So I escaped and became what some people might call a ‘mercenary’. I prefer the title ‘cleaner of the gene pool’. And I’ve made a lot of good friends along the way: like Arcade. He’s always sending me to his amusement park.”

Remember when Dan Way’s Deadpool was good?

When did it go wrong then chap?
I’ve pretty much enjoyed all of what I’ve read so far.

It slowly started getting less and less quality after the X Marks the Spot story, and then by the time it hit the Doctor Bong story it started getting to the point where I would be like “Oh man, this is going to be an awesome arc” and then it’d let me down. The Curse of the Mutants tie in, Space Oddity, and Operation Annihilation were the three stories that gradually made me decide to drop the title, and then I read the arc after that, where he’s in the asylum or whatever, and it was just bad…
It’s especially bad when you have a book like Uncanny X-Force where ‘Pool’s being written SO well, and when you turn back to the Joe Kelly stories which were so much better. There’s just nothing to it anymore. I understand that he’s just Deadpool, and he’s a silly character and whatever, but I think he deserves better than a series where it seems to be just Way thinking “Hey what kind of crap can we put Wade through this time?!” and then getting some crazy idea like “Oh, we’ll send him to space” or “Let’s have him attempt to be killed by the Hulk”, which could work out, but then he doesn’t even write it well. I’d like to see more stuff like the Macho Gomez issues, which brought back the older characters to the series.
I’d like to see an ongoing plot like there was in the first 12 issues rather than loosely strung together arcs. I’d basically like to see him and his series being treated like any other character. He should have a series like Captain America or Spider-Man does, where he’s interacting with the same supporting cast while dealing with conflicts that interconnect between stories to actually lead somewhere, rather than just bumbling about for a while and doing random things.

That you don’t think there’s much of an overall narrative at the moment sort of surprises me, especially with what Way said about the upcoming Dead storyline. It seems like his suicidal mission against the Hulk was part of a grand plan to finally win and embrace death or something.
I’m not entirely sure though - I skimmed the article. Wanted to avoid some spoilers for when I check it out in trade lol.
