The first of IDW’s new hardcover collections, this wonderfully presented oversized hardcover comes with a ribbon bookmark attached. The IDW Collections seek to reprint IDW’s Transformers comics in a rough chronological order, aiming to entertain and introduce you to their Transformers Universe. The big question therefore is whether this collection is accessible for new readers, or is it very much something for the established fans only? Read on to find out.
I am on Chapter 6, and throughout the entire game up to this point i’ve been too distracted by the awful lighting to have that much fun. Seriously. WHY IS EVERYTHING SO GODDAMN DARK? All I see are candles, candles everywhere. It isn’t scary. It is frustrating. Every once in a while I come across a room where there are tables blocking my path and I walk around like an idiot until I can see where the opening is. And sometimes during battles I get those cool little quicktime cutscenes where I mercilessly rip apart a necromorph except, oh, I CAN’T SEE IT. I have the brightness turned up to full, and it hasn’t fixed anything.
I want to enjoy this so badly. aaauuuugggghhhh
I’ll probably suffer from this too then. On my old school little TV at Uni on the brightness adjustment screen, the logo wasn’t visible at all.
Went into my friend’s room on his TV, and on the lowest setting it was clearly visible lol.
I’ll be annoyed for a few minutes, but after I’ve been brutally taken out for the first time for my gun-ho style of play, I’ll be too worried for the rest of time about dying.
Writers: Gail Simone, John Ostrander Pencillers: Jim Calafiore, Peter Nguyen Inkers: Jim Calafiore, Doug Hazlewood, Mark McKenna
Somewhat similar to the previous volume, this features two standalone issues before the main storyline. In the first, John Ostrander takes an issue to spotlight Deadshot, before Black Alice ventures to try and join the team. The four issue storyline which follows tries to blend together John Ostrander’s old Suicide Squad series, alongside Secret Six and the Blackest Night saga. Do the three easily join together to make a great story, or does it read like another underwhelming event tie-in book?
Amazon.com must resent me. I ordered Transformers The IDW Collection Volume 2 from them, since they were the only place that I normally use who weren’t charging over £80 for it, and .co.uk were out of stock.
Amazon decided to tell me my order would dispatch within 3 months, and then I was delighted to watch them sell a few more copies before deciding they don’t have only left.
Looks like I’m hoping for this to be reprinted or to catch it on eBay. Vol 3 is coming out soon, and now I’m not sure whether to grab it or not.
Sorry if this is shameless, but, well, I can’t help it this one time.
One of my favorite tpb collections of my work ever comes out today. Secret Six: Cats in the Cradle.
I love the mix in this collection. It has the critically acclaimed title arc, a story that shows Catman still has a lot of demons left in him. I’m terribly proud of this story, and I think it’s some of Jim’s best work ever, as an artist.
There’s a fun John Ostrander one-off story, a take on the Most Dangerous Game, only where the SIX make lousy targets.
And there’s one of my favorite single issues ever, the much-talked-about Secret Six Western issue, the UNFORGIVABLE.
If you’ve been curious to try the Secret Six, and see what’s going on in one of the wrongest books on the stands, this is a great tpb to try. You won’t need previous volumes to understand it, and the stories are all complete in this tpb.
I hope you’ll give it a try. If you do, please let me know what you thought, I’d love to hear!
^ What she said. Go buy Secret Six: Cats In The Cradle, fall in love, and buy the rest.
(That Western issue was amazing.)
Damn it. Book Depo are doing the usual ‘Out of stock’ malarkey for the DC version of this. I presume it means that they just won’t get them in any more.
Either a visit to the evil FP, or wait until March when the Titan version comes out in the UK. =/
