Another feature...

Since this has evolved from just being me posting random images I saw that amused me, to a comicy based tumblr, I’ve decided I might as well take the final step. So now in addition to random panels and spam from what I’ve read/am reading, I might actually post some reviews of trades and collected editions. Knowing me I’ll probably only end up doing this for a week or something.

Whilst I’m at it, I may even put up some older reviews that I posted on the Panini Comics forum.

Facelift completed

I’ve finally got round to making a new banner for this little tumblr blog, to complete my little update for the colour scheme which has been in place for the last week or so. I’m not overly happy with the end result for the text, but I can’t be bothered to fiddle around with it anymore, so it’ll do for a few months.

Now to go and read about how much of a gent Stalin was.

- And this post has been rephrased, since I don’t think the original read well at all lol.

Finally got bored of looking at blue

So I changed the background and my banner image.

I’ve had that scheme since day one, so I decided that it was time for a change. May knock up a new banner too, rather than lazily change the colour to the original. We’ll see.

30 Days of DC - Day 30: Your Favourite Event

52

This was a far easier choice than my Marvel selection, mainly because 52 is so awesome.

A yearlong weekly series, 52 was written by a team of awesome writers and featured multiple story plots that weaved around throughout the series. I love this mainly because of the chance it created for other characters such as Booster Gold to shine, whilst filling in the missing gap in the DC Universe. The art was relatively good too.

To be honest, no matter what I say can highlight and show even a glimpse of how awesome 52 is. So if you haven’t read it, go do yourself a favour and buy the 4 tpbs. Now preferably.

And I’m done now completely. I’ll have to find something else to do on here other than spam from time to time now. Hmm..

House of M

Not really too sure what to choose here. I know there’s been crap loads of Marvel events but I can’t really name that many at the moment. However out of those I can remember, House of M was overall most entertaining and had a major impact on the Universe as a whole (and then was trumped by Civil War, but ah well.)

The tie-ins were hit and miss (aren’t they always though?) but being in an alternate reality, it meant that even more than usual they weren’t that necessary to the main story, meaning you could miss them if you wanted to. Despite reaffirming that Wanda is loony, the concept was pretty good and executed well.

So I guess it’s my favourite event and I’m done for Marvel - although a lot later than planned due to the Wamtop’s death, but never mind.

30 Days of DC - Day 29: Your Favourite Series You Would Suggest To Read

Booster Gold

This was a slightly easier choice than my Marvel selection, mainly because with DC most titles I collect are in tpbs. I’m still one behind with Booster though, but details. I’ll order it soon. Promise.

Anyway, Booster Gold is awesome, and I’d recommend it to anyone. Spinning out of the events of 52, it picks up on the greatest hero never known, and shapes him into his new role in the DC Universe. The story within the first 3 volumes I’ve read has been top notch, not to mention the art is pretty too. Booster and Skeets make a great team, and provide some great moments of entertainment. Oh, and there’s a Blue Beetle team up, with one of my favourite comic scenes ever.

See? Made of win. That is all.

Daredevil

I wasn’t really sure how to pick this one, since I’m like a year or two behind Marvel with most titles I read, whether in the Panini CEs or buying tpbs. So I’m going for overall consistency.

Collecting and reading all of the Daredevil tpbs since Guardian Devil made Daredevil my favourite Marvel Comics character. Throughout the epic Bendis and Brubaker runs, you got not just a great cast of characters, but also a series of amazing stories and a fantastic overall story arc which showcased Daredevil as the great character he is. The art throughout the run which I’ve read so far was absolutely fantastic, being dark and gritty and fitting the world that Daredevil inhabits. I really hope Diggle maintains the high standards that have been set before him. Hmm. I should really buy the tpb soon.

Therefore, I’d recommend Daredevil to anyone. The vast majority of the run which I’ve read has been top stuff.

30 Days Of DC - Day 28: Your Favourite Comic Time Period

image

Right now

Even more easier to choose than my Marvel selection. And there’s a very simple reason for this.

Basically, I’ve only really recently ventured into the DC Universe, andas such I haven’t really been exposed to that much past material, other than the 90s JLA series and volume 3 of Green Lantern which mainly featured Kyle.

However the material coming out of DC Comics interests me quite a bit at the moment, so I’m going to say that this is my favourite period at the moment. When I read more older stories, perhaps this choice will change.

Late 90s/Early 2000s

I’m back, and here ready to finish off this meme. Anyway, this choice was picked more so for nostalgia than anything else.

Why nostaglia you say? Because this was the period that I really started reading comics, picking up the Panini UK Collector Editions reprints. I really enjoyed the Fantastic Four and Iron Man stories post MHR, but what really grabbed my attention was the Avengers who I loved pretty much instantly. This volume featured a great line up, and had even better long running storylines which really showcased the characters well and introduced me to the wider Marvel Universe as a whole. As such, these great stories from the late 90s relaunch of the Avengers are what really got me into comics and helped to create the ever lovin’ geek I am today.

Good times.

*blog necromancy*

So yeah, this little lovely blog thing has been dead recently. The reason suprisingly enough, is not that I neglected it, but my old Wamtop decided to blue screen of death me as the hard drive died. Oh, and I have no back up for all my files, so that was pretty annoying. And by that, I mean it was damn annoying.

Anyway, it’s taken me a while to get back up and running again as my laptop died just before a scheduled holiday with friends, which I had agreed to go on in an attempt to try to be a young British stereotype and interact with other yobs. It was… pleasant enough actually.

Anyway, I’ll bring this ramble to an end. Back to spamming of what I’m reading, and I’ll actually get to finish the 30 days meme I was doing. Good times.
